'Coin~Op, Brixton’ is from a series of paintings depicting uniquely beautiful London shops. This particular painting is of a laundrette on Brixton Hill which has now changed it’s facade with a less striking plastic awning.
In recent years I have seen neighbourhoods change and lose much of their individuality and charm to modern development. There were 15 shop closures a day in the UK across the first half of 2016, and the country is seeing its fastest rate of shop closures in four years due to a combination of high rents, stagnating wages and an increase in internet shopping.
