© 2019 by Michelle Heron. British independent artist.

"Woolies, Margate" is from a new series of paintings exploring the coastal towns of Britain and issues of urban decay, towns in transition, gentrification and closing shops. I was exploring Kent during filming for Sky's Landscape Artist of the Year in the summer of 2018 and noticed so many old shops that were either closed or still surviving. Woolworths closed 10 years ago this year (2019) and this shop has remained empty and unchanged ever since.

The painting is currently on display at The Holden Gallery Manchester as part of The John Ruskin Prize 2019
